Artist Plate Project
Creative & project managed the production of limited edition artwork by 45 world renowned artists onto porcelain plates for the Artist Plate Project. Some of the artists involved in the project include: Virgil Abloh, KAWS, Keith Haring. The Coalition for the Homeless raises funds by the sale of plates - the funds go towards food, crisis services, housing and aid to thousands of people experiencing homelessness and instability. Each artist had a limited edition of 250 plates . Each plate purchased can feed up to 100 homeless. 𝐀 𝐒𝐭𝐨𝐫𝐲: 𝐕𝐢𝐫𝐠𝐢𝐥 𝐀𝐛𝐥𝐨𝐡 - “𝐋𝐢𝐟𝐞 𝐈𝐭𝐬𝐞𝐥𝐟” For over 2 years Virgil had a private battle with cancer - recently died from a cardiac angiosarcoma. Diagnosed in 2019, Virgil kept his diagnosis private while undergoing numerous treatments. Virgil was commissioned for artwork. His plate titled, “Life Itself” - an edition of 250 units were produced to benefit The Coalition for the Homeless. The plate features three “cracks” through the plate. Consistently Virgil corrected the term “homeless”, with “friends”. 𝐓𝐚𝐤𝐞𝐰𝐚𝐲𝐬: Art is meant to be interpreted as you see it. As I see it, Vigil’s plate may have had a deeper meaning - Life itself is indeed fragile, so are plates. His life was fragile. It was humbling to have played a role in this project for such a great, impactful cause.
